X Launches Audio and Video Calls for Non-Premium Users
X, Elon Musk’s social media platform formerly known as Twitter, is set to launch audio and video calls for regular, non-premium users. Previously, these features were only available to paying, premium users. An X engineer and CEO Linda Yaccarino confirmed the news, indicating a slow roll-out to non-paying users.
Accessing the Feature on X
Despite initial plans for a gradual release, some users, like the author, already have access to audio and video calls on X. The process involves entering a direct message, tapping the phone icon, and selecting the desired call type. However, the practicality and necessity of making calls on X instead of existing services remain questionable.
It seems like a feature that users may stumble upon while browsing through messages, with little clear added value. While the option to make calls without sharing phone numbers may be appealing, similar functionalities are available on other platforms.
