The Imminent Arrival of the Pixel Watch 4: Anticipated New Features for the Smartwatch

Google’s upcoming Pixel launch event, Made By Google, is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 20. The event is expected to showcase the debut of the Google Pixel Watch 4 alongside the new Pixel 10 series of smartphones. Pre-orders are set to commence on the day of the launch, with wider availability starting Aug. 28.

Pixel Watch 4 Features and Rumors

The Pixel Watch 4 is rumored to feature a dual-chip setup and a much brighter screen. While the main processor is anticipated to remain the same, the watch will receive an upgrade with the Snapdragon W5+ Gen 1 chip paired with a new M55 co-processor. Additionally, the watch may sport a brighter AMOLED display with a peak brightness of 3,000 nits.

The watch is expected to be available in two sizes, a 41mm model (codenamed “Meridian”) and a 45mm model (codenamed “Canari”), similar to the previous Pixel Watch 3 lineup. Both sizes are likely to come in LTE and Wi-Fi-only configurations.

A full range of colors and band options is anticipated for the Pixel Watch 4, including options like Black/Obsidian, Gold/Lemon, Moonstone, Silver/Iris, and Silver/Porcelain. Various band materials and colors are also rumored, such as a two-tone leather band in jade and a metal mesh band in matte black and polished silver.

Battery and Health Features

The Pixel Watch 4 is rumored to receive a small battery boost, with the 41mm model potentially featuring a 327 mAh battery (a 7 percent increase) and the 45mm model seeing a 9 percent boost to 459 mAh. Faster charging is expected, possibly through a new wireless charging mechanism.

Reports suggest that new health and safety features may be included in the Pixel Watch 4. These features may encompass a revamped blood oxygen (SpO2) tracking feature that runs continuously, notifications for low oxygen levels, a “Notification Cooldown” feature to limit alerts, and an “Emergency Satellite Communications” functionality, although details on the latter are scarce. These features are also expected to be available on the Wear OS 6 software.

In summary, the upcoming Google Pixel Watch 4 is shaping up to be a feature-packed smartwatch with significant upgrades in performance, display brightness, battery life, and health-tracking capabilities. Stay tuned for more updates on Google’s Made By Google event.
