PS6 leak hints at big power increase for a bargain price

It feels like just yesterday that the PlayStation 5 launched in 2020, but a recent leak is giving us a glimpse into the potential future of PlayStation.

YouTuber Moore’s Law is Dead, known for reporting on upcoming tech developments, shared some interesting claims about the next generation of PlayStation hardware in a lengthy video that has been making its rounds on the internet. Of course, it’s important to take this information with a grain of salt as it is based on an AMD presentation to Sony that allegedly took place in 2023.

If any of the information in the video turns out to be true, it’s quite exciting. Moore’s Law is Dead suggests that the PlayStation 6 will have significantly more 3D rendering power than the PS5, all while maintaining a $499 price point. The console is said to be able to play PS4 and PS5 games, showing Sony’s commitment to backwards compatibility. The rumored launch date for the PS6 is no earlier than fall 2027.

Interestingly, the leak also mentions Sony’s plans to release a new gaming handheld alongside the PS6. This handheld device is said to feature a touch screen, microphones, an SSD slot, and haptic vibration, with a price point between $400 and $500. If these leaks hold true, Sony’s handheld would be a formidable competitor to the Nintendo Switch 2.

While having better specs than the upcoming Xbox handheld could be a plus, past experiences like the Vita caution against assuming success. Only time will tell.
