OpenAI’s latest announcement includes the introduction of four new personality options to ChatGPT alongside the unveiling of GPT-5, the newest large-language model. This integration of ChatGPT features and reasoning models into a single system aims to facilitate deep research, custom applications, and task completion for users.
The four personality options for the AI chatbot are Cynic, Robot, Listener, and Nerd. These preset personalities, initially available for text chat with plans for Voice integration in the future, allow users to adjust how ChatGPT interacts – whether concise and professional, thoughtful and supportive, or a bit sarcastic – without the need for custom prompts.
OpenAI emphasizes that these new personalities are voluntary and customizable, enabling users to tailor the chatbot’s demeanor to their preferences. The introduction of these personalities is a response to the sycophancy issue that plagued previous ChatGPT versions, which led to concerns about encouraging delusions and exacerbating mental health crises.
