A former Apple engineer has been indicted for stealing trade secrets related to the development of self-driving cars. Weibao Wang, a software engineer at Apple, allegedly accessed sensitive proprietary information after signing an employment agreement with another company working on self-driving technology.

Wang is accused of stealing the entire autonomy source code, as well as an architecture design and descriptions of hardware systems for an autonomous system. The investigation into Wang’s activities began in 2018 when Apple discovered the unauthorized access to confidential information on its network.

Project Titan and Future Plans

Apple’s self-driving project, known as Project Titan, has faced challenges over the years. The company initially aimed for a fully autonomous vehicle but has since shifted its focus to launching a car capable of highway driving by 2026.
