Ivory: A New Mastodon Client with a Terrible Name

Developer Exodus from Twitter

Chase a developer away from your platform, and they’ll go somewhere else. But what happens when the developer is one of the best out there?

Earlier in January, Elon Musk’s Twitter blocked third-party clients on Twitter, including popular apps such as Twitterific and Tweetbot. The company did this citing “long-standing” rules, though it added those rules after it had blocked these apps. As a result, developers Iconfactory and Tapbots both discontinued their Twitter clients (Twitterific and Tweetbot, respectively) as there was simply no way to get them to work again.

Mastodon’s Rise as a Twitter Alternative

Meanwhile, Twitter competitor Mastodon has been amassing millions of new users, many of them unhappy with the way Musk has been running things at Twitter. Tapbots has launched Ivory, a new iPhone app that takes Tweetbot’s aesthetics and many of its features and applies it to Mastodon.

Ivory: Making Mastodon More User-Friendly

Ivory is pretty great and makes Mastodon more Twitter-like, with familiar elements like a timeline switch and a menu bar. The app offers customization options and costs $1.99 per month. Despite its unfortunate name, Ivory aims to improve the Mastodon experience for users.
