The upcoming iOS 18.2 update is set to bring significant changes. Expected to launch in early December, iOS 18.2 will introduce features such as Genmoji, Image Playground, Siri with the ChatGPT function, and more AI-powered Writing Tools. Additionally, the update will include a redesigned Mail app.
Mail Inbox Organization:
One of the most noticeable updates to the Mail app is the automatic categorization of emails into Primary, Transactions, Updates, and Promotions. The Primary category focuses on important emails from actual individuals, while Transactions will handle receipts, orders, and deliveries. Updates will contain news, subscriptions, and social media notifications, and Promotions will house offers and deals emails. Users also have the option to manually move emails into different categories, with the ability to train the app for future categorization.
Grouped Messages and Digest View:
Another feature in iOS 18.2 is the ability for Mail to group messages from the same sender into one thread, known as ‘Digest View.’ This consolidation makes it easier for users to catch up on multiple emails from a single source, such as travel confirmations and notifications.
Writing Tools and Email Summaries:
Additional features like Writing Tools and automated email summaries rely on Apple Intelligence. Writing Tools utilize AI to assist in drafting responses, adjusting tone and length, and providing a quick proofread. Email summaries offer a brief recap of the email content, allowing users to screen conversations efficiently without opening each email.
As of now, Apple Intelligence features are exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro models and the entire iPhone 16 lineup due to significant RAM requirements. The release of iOS 18.2 in December will provide more insight into whether the new AI suite justifies an upgrade.
