Instagram’s New Text-Based App
Lia Haberman reported that Instagram is working on a new social media platform that combines features from Twitter and Instagram. The app, internally known as P92 or Project 92, will be decentralized and compatible with other apps like Mastodon.
Features of the New App
The new app, which may be released as soon as late June, will allow users to post text updates up to 500 characters long. Users can also attach links, photos, and videos up to five minutes long, and interact with others’ posts. The app will be linked to Instagram, allowing users to sync existing followers and will enforce Instagram’s community guidelines.
Instagram’s Recent Updates
Months after launching Notes, a feature for posting text updates on Instagram, the company is exploring a standalone decentralized social network for sharing text updates. This initiative aims to provide a separate space for creators and public figures to share timely updates about their interests.
