Hyundai and Kia are facing a hefty $200 million settlement after viral videos showing how to steal certain models went viral on TikTok and YouTube.

The videos, uploaded by the group known as the “Kia Boyz,” demonstrated how to break into Hyundai and Kia vehicles lacking necessary security measures. This led to a surge in car thefts, with kids as young as 12 joining the “Kia Challenge” on social media platforms.
The Impact
Police reports from Milwaukee revealed a drastic increase in stolen vehicles, with hundreds of Kias and Hyundais taken in 2021. These thefts have resulted in 14 crashes and eight fatalities, prompting a $200 million settlement to compensate affected owners and enhance vehicle security.
