Sling TV Faces Lawsuit from Disney Over New Short-Term Bundles
Disney is taking legal action against Sling TV for their new “Day Pass” system, which allows users to access live TV channels for as little as $4.99 for 24 hours. One of the channels included in these bundles is ESPN, a property owned by Disney. Disney argues that these new offerings violate their existing licensing agreement with Sling.
In response, Disney filed a lawsuit stating that Sling launched these passes without consulting them, and that it goes against the terms of their agreement. The concept of paying a small fee for temporary access to specific channels is a departure from traditional cable or streaming services. Despite the lawsuit, Sling is standing by their decision to offer these passes and plans to defend themselves in court.
For those interested in taking advantage of these day passes, it may be wise to do so sooner rather than later. Disney’s legal action could impact the availability of these affordable viewing options in the future.
