Apple Watch sales have been on a downward trend for the past few years, as reported by Counterpoint Research. The latest data from the market research firm shows a 19 percent decline in Apple Watch shipments year-over-year in 2024, following a 10 percent drop in 2023. Despite the launch of the new Series 10 model in September 2024, sales continued to fall, marking a concerning trend for Apple.
The main reason behind this decline, according to Counterpoint, is the lack of available upgrades for customers, particularly the absence of a new budget SE model. The Ultra model, which is a pricier flagship, accounts for less than 10 percent of total Apple Watch sales. With no new Ultra or SE model released alongside the Series 10 last year, Apple may have missed an opportunity to attract more customers.
Looking ahead, there is hope for a turnaround as Apple is rumored to refresh both the SE and Ultra product lines later this year. While the impact of these new models remains uncertain in the current economic climate, a fresh budget offering could potentially help Apple regain its footing in the smartwatch market.
