Apple Supports President Biden’s Right-to-Repair Law
Apple has shifted its stance on right-to-repair laws in recent years, particularly concerning its iPhones. The tech company announced its support for President Joe Biden’s right-to-repair law, stating that it will now make it easier for independent contractors to access the tools and documentation necessary to repair iPhones.
Embracing the Right-to-Repair Movement
In a move aligned with President Biden’s efforts to address anti-consumer practices, Apple declared that it will provide consumers and contractors nationwide with all the essential parts, tools, and documentation needed to fix iPhones. This marks a significant change from Apple’s previous policy, which restricted iPhone repairs to the company itself.
This shift towards supporting right-to-repair laws is part of Apple’s broader commitment to environmental sustainability. Beginning in 2019, Apple started providing repair parts to independent contractors, allowing for repairs on its glass-backed phones. Additionally, the company recently endorsed right-to-repair legislation in California, which mandates fair access to repair tools for consumers and repair shops.
