Today, Apple unveiled the new Apple Pencil Pro, a significant upgrade to its popular stylus, at the May 7 “Let Loose” event. The new model, set to launch on May 15, comes with exciting features that set it apart from its predecessor.
The new Apple Pencil Pro
The Apple Pencil Pro is priced at $129, replacing the base Apple Pencil model. It offers haptic feedback, allowing users to feel vibrations that correspond to the actions performed on the iPad. For example, users can sense objects snapping into alignment while editing photos or illustrations.
Physical interactivity
In addition to haptic feedback, the Apple Pencil Pro introduces physical interactivity features. Users can apply pressure by squeezing the device, triggering specific tasks like opening a tool palette. The internal gyroscope enables new options, such as changing brush shapes in illustration apps through barrel roll-like motions.
This upgraded stylus responds to pressure, angle, and user interaction, providing a range of functionalities. Double-tapping activates shortcuts within iPad apps, while developers can create custom interactions and integrate them into specific movements.
The latest iPad accessory
The Apple Pencil Pro is compatible with the new iPad Pro and iPad Mini, with the latter only supporting pairing, charging, and storage. Users now have two Apple Pencil models to choose from, but the enhanced features of the Apple Pencil Pro make it a compelling option at the $129 price point.
