Microsoft Introduces Windows Copilot AI Assistant for Windows 11
Microsoft has unveiled Windows Copilot, an AI assistant designed to increase productivity on Windows 11. Placed discreetly behind a button on the taskbar, Windows Copilot can perform a variety of tasks across different apps, such as copying, pasting, using the Snipping Tool, and even generating summaries or revisions of your content.
Enhanced Features and Functionality
Working in conjunction with Microsoft’s AI chatbot Bing Chat, Windows Copilot can provide information and answer questions like the time in different time zones or available flights to a specific destination. Unlike its predecessor Cortana, Windows Copilot boasts enhanced productivity features that allow it to execute tasks as well as offer information. Microsoft shut down Cortana’s mobile apps in 2021, signaling a shift towards the new AI assistant.
When questioned about data privacy, a Microsoft spokesperson clarified that Copilot’s language models are not trained on user data or prompts and that data remains within the compliance boundaries set by the user. Previews for Windows Copilot are set to begin on June 11, showcasing its features and capabilities to users.
Microsoft previously introduced Copilot for Microsoft 365, highlighting its ability to generate first drafts in Word or complete presentations with a single prompt. With the expansion of Copilot to the entire Windows 11 operating system, Microsoft aims to enhance productivity and streamline tasks for users.
