Google Releases AI Tool for Wildlife Monitoring
Google released a new AI tool, SpeciesNet, designed to identify animal species for wildlife monitoring. The tool consists of models for identifying objects in wildlife camera footage and classifying them into animal species.
Accelerating Wildlife Conservation with AI
SpeciesNet was trained on a dataset of over 65 million images, including camera trap images from Wildlife Insights users. The tool can classify images into more than 2000 labels, covering diverse animal species, higher-level taxa, and non-animal classes. Scientists can now spend more time on conservation efforts, thanks to the accelerated processing provided by AI.
