Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg recently addressed concerns raised by employees about recent changes within the company. During a meeting on Thursday, Zuckerberg discussed various issues, including the dismantling of Meta’s fact-checking policies and diversity programs. He made it clear that these changes were made to align with the Trump administration in order to establish a productive partnership with the United States government.
Zuckerberg also confirmed that the decision to end the company’s DEI initiatives was influenced by the Trump administration’s stance on such policies. Despite this, other large companies like Apple and Costco have chosen to maintain their diversity programs despite pressure from the Trump administration.
During the meeting, Zuckerberg expressed frustration about leaks to the media, lamenting the fact that everything he says seems to get out. The company reportedly warned employees that anyone speaking to the media would face consequences.
Zuckerberg also touched upon the potential TikTok ban and discussed the impact of the Chinese AI app DeepSeek on the tech industry. He highlighted DeepSeek’s decision to release its AI model for free and open-source, similar to Meta’s strategy with its own AI model, Llama. Despite the competition from DeepSeek, Zuckerberg remains confident that Meta’s business will not be negatively affected due to its different approach and greater funding compared to other companies like Nvidia and OpenAI.
