Threads Introduces Hashtags Globally
Threads is officially rolling out hashtags globally, a feature that has been tested since November 2022. This new update allows users to categorize posts with tags, similar to hashtags but without the actual hash symbol. The initial rollout began in Australia and has now been launched globally.
Key Details About Tags on Threads
Tags on Threads appear as clickable blue links and users can add them by typing the category or topic without the # symbol. According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, users can only add one tag per post, the tag can be a phrase with spaces, and special characters like question marks are allowed.
Threads has also been testing other updates, such as a trending topic feed and an API. These new features have been gradually released since the app’s launch, addressing some of the missing functionalities that users have pointed out.
