Have you ever wondered why the second photo of a carousel on Instagram always pops up first? According to Instagram head Adam Mosseri, it’s because you might have seen that carousel before but didn’t swipe, so you’re given a second chance to view it. Mosseri mentioned in an Instagram Reel that carousels often receive more reach than photos due to this second chance feature and the increased interactions with multiple pieces of media. In addition to posting a carousel, Mosseri suggested adding music to increase reach.
“I highly advise you to add music so it’s eligible to show up in video experiences, like the Reels tab,” Mosseri said. “Choosing a carousel over a photo will often help you get more reach.”
Happy posting!
