OpenAI Releases New AI Classifier Tool
OpenAI, the creators of ChatGPT, have addressed concerns about the use of their AI chatbot for academic purposes by releasing a new AI classifier tool. This tool allows users to determine whether a block of text was written by a human or a computer.
Limitations and Reliability
While the AI classifier tool is a step in the right direction, OpenAI acknowledges that it is not fully reliable. In their evaluations, the classifier correctly identifies AI-written text 26% of the time but incorrectly labels human-written text as AI-written 9% of the time. Additionally, the tool works best with English-language text and may struggle with shorter texts.
Despite its limitations, OpenAI’s AI classifier tool represents progress in detecting computer-generated text. It is a notable development in the field of artificial intelligence and demonstrates ongoing efforts to combat cheating in educational settings.
