TikTok’s “Gimme The Mic” Competition
TikTok has recently launched the “Gimme The Mic” global competition, aimed at discovering new musical talent and supporting aspiring music creators. This competition is open to users aged 18 and older, expanding TikTok’s LIVE offerings.
Competition Phases and Prizes
The competition consists of three phases: audition, semi-final, and grand-finale. Auditions opened on August 7 and will close on August 16, with users required to post a video on TikTok with the hashtag “GimmeTheMic.” Thirty top creators will be selected to compete in the semi-finals, where they will go head-to-head in a series of TikTok LIVEs in September. The U.S. grand-finale will take place on September 10, with the winner receiving 50,000 Diamonds. The global champion will compete for a grand prize of 500,000 Diamonds on September 22 and 23.
Diamonds are a measurement of the popularity of user content on TikTok, typically exchanged for U.S. dollars. While the monetary support for participants may not be substantial, the exposure gained from the competition could lead to more lucrative opportunities for aspiring music creators.
