Apple announced today that the Blood Oxygen reporting feature is making a return to the Apple Watch after a long patent dispute with Masimo, a medical device maker. The feature will be available for U.S. customers with the Apple Watch Series 9, Series 10, and Apple Watch Ultra 2 after updating their iPhones to iOS 18.6.1 and their smartwatches to watchOS 11.6.1.
After being pulled from shelves in the U.S. in 2023 due to the dispute with Masimo, the Apple Watch Series 9 and Ultra 2 are now back with the disputed pulse oximetry feature for measuring blood oxygen levels.
This update was enabled by a recent U.S. Customs ruling, which allowed sensor data from the Blood Oxygen app on Apple Watch to be calculated on the paired iPhone, with results viewable in the Respiratory section of the Health app.
