Bluesky Announces Addition of Video Feature
Bluesky, the decentralised social media platform, has confirmed that it will be introducing a video feature in its upcoming update. The announcement was made in a post on Friday, following the initial announcement in May about the addition of video and direct messages.
“Now might be a good time to announce that our next major app update will have video. 👀 More details soon!”
Although Bluesky did not provide specific details on the release date or the exact nature of the video feature, it hinted that the initial integration could involve 90-second video clips that can be shared in posts.
Anti-Toxicity Features and Content Moderation
In addition to the video update, Bluesky also unveiled some new “anti-toxicity” features, including the ability to detach quote posts, hide replies, and filter notifications to receive updates only from selected individuals. The platform has been focusing on enhancing content moderation, allowing users to manage their own moderation services.
Platform Growth and User Base
According to the latest report from Bluesky, the platform currently has 5.8 million users, providing an alternative to competitors like X (formerly Twitter). Initially launched as an invite-only platform, Bluesky received 3 million sign-ups before opening up to the public in February. In comparison, Meta-owned competitor Threads recently surpassed the 200 million user mark.
